  1. Juicy by Biggie Smalls
    Girls used to diss me
Now they write letters 'cause they miss me
I never thought it could happen, this rappin' stuff
I was too used to packin' gats and stuff
Now honies play me close like butter played toast
From the Mississippi down to the east coast
Condos in Queens, indo for weeks
Sold out seats to hear Biggie Smalls speak

This song shows so many slant rhymes, internal rhymes and perfect rhymes. I took a part out of the song that I felt had many of these things. Some of the perfect rhymes are diss and miss in the first and second lines. One of the slant rhymes is close and toast in the fifth line. An example of internal rhyme is seats and speak in the last line

  3. All Apologies By Nirvana

    What else should I be?
    All apologies.
    What else can I say?
    Everyone is gay.
    What else could I write?
    I don't have the right.
    What else should I be?
    All apologies.

This song has end rhyme at the end of line three and four with "say" and "gay". Also, in line five and six, write and right are rhymed together with perfect rhyme because the two words sound exactly the same but have different meanings and spellings. In line seven and eight there is a slant rhyme with "be" and "apologies" because they have similar sounding endings and in the song, they sound like the rhyme.
All apologies is a repetition because it is the only phrase repeated twice in that verse, and is also repeated throughout the song which shows that it is the main phrase or has a certain meaning or idea the listener should get from the song.

  4. Carry out
    By: Timberland and Timberlake

    Baby, you're lookin' fire hot
I'll have you open all night like an IHOP
I'll take you home baby, let you keep me company
You give me some of you, I give you some of me
    (You look good)
Baby must taste heavenly, I'm pretty sure that you got your own recipe
So pick it up, pick it up, yeah I like you
I just can't get enough I gotta drive through

In the first part of the verse it is "Hot" and "IHOP." these are slant rhymes. "Company" and "Me" is also a slant rhyme.
and "You" and "through." rhyme but aren't perfect.

  5. locked in mariah's wine cellar all i had for lunch
was red wine more red wine and captain crunch
red wine for breakfast and for bunch
and to soak up in an between snack crackers to munch
mariah what ever happened to us? why did we have to break up?
all i asked for was a glass of punch
you see i never really asked for much
    i can't imagine whats
going through you mind after such
    a nasty BREAK-up
    with that latin hunk

This song has alot of the poetry terms we have been going over in class, it shows Rhyme with the way he matched words and vowels, Tone strongly giving his attitude or the way he feels, Enjambment he has many run on lines were they don't stop, Speaker he shows he has a point of view on this bad break up that happened, Repetition is shown by the way he keeps repeating the fact that he has had alot of red wine, Alliteration with the way her ends his sentence in lunch and the next one with crunch.

  6. I Will Not Bow
    By Breakin Benjamin

    Fall!

Now the dark begins to rise
Save your breath it's far from over
Leave the lost and dead behind
Now's your chance to run for cover
I don't want to change the world
I just want to leave it colder
Light the fuse and burn it up
Take the path that leads to nowhere
All is lost again, but I'm not giving in

I will not bow, I will not break
I will shut the world away
I will not fall, I will not fade
I will take your breath away

In this verse there are many peotry terms. It contains enjambments, caesura: when theres a pause between each verse, repetition: because the pattern of the verses repeat and some verses are sung more than once. There is also some perfect rhyme within the verses of the song.

  7. The song "Where I Stood," by Missy Higgins:

    I don't know what I've done
Or if I like what I've begun
But something told me to run
And honey you know me it's all or none

There were sounds in my head
    Little voices whispering
That I should go and this should end
Oh and I found myself listening

Throughout all of her lyrics, she is consistent using end rhyme and slant rhyme. None of the words sound like they would rhyme, but the way she sings thm, they do! Lyrics such as head and end, whispering and listening, etc. Also, the tone she uses is sad, and meloncoly. The speaker is not only Missy Higgins, but any anonymous person who has let someone they loved go, and they regret it.

  8. "Your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you
She tied you to her kitchen chair
She broke your throne and she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the hallelujah" -"Hallelujah" by: Rufus Wainwright

These song lyrics use a perfect rhyme "roof and proof".
It also uses end Rhymes like in "Chair and Hair"

  9. "And honestly, I have been begging for answers
That you and only you can give to me
    A voice crying loud
I've been crying for days now
And as I start to run, I stop to breathe
(And I was nearly scared to death)
And I was nearly scared to death
    (Why you left in paragraphs)
    Why you left in paragraphs
(The words were nearly over us)
The words were nearly over us
You stop and turn and grab your bags"

Mayday Parade- You Be the Anchor

This song demonstrates the usage of several poetic device. One of these is the enjambment from the first to second line in which the phrase continues into the next line. Also, loud and now are used in this context as a slant rhyme. The statement"and i was nearly scared to death," shows repetition, along with "why you left in paragraphs," and,"the words were nearly over us." There is also, though not indicated by any punctuation, a caesura before the last line, "you stop and turn and grab your bags".

  10. "young geezy, and then what"

First I'm gone stack my flo' (and then what?)
Then I'm gone stack some mo' (and then what?)
Close shop then I do my count, hide the rest of the yams at my auntie house
    (and then what?)
Get Fresh and jump in one of dem cars (yeah)
Hit the club and get one of dem broads (and then what?)
It's a wrap, we on the way to the house; by 3:45 I be kickin' her out (heyy)

this song has great slant rhymes that flow really well. In the beginning, "flo'' and "mo" are slant rhymes. As well as "count" and "house" are also slant rhyme. and in the last part, "house" and "out: are very good slant rhymes.

  11. Lady Anteebellum "I run to you"

    I run my life
    Or is it running me?
    Run from my past
    I run too fast
    Or too slow it seems

    When lies become the truth
That's when I run to you

Baby, you're the only one I run to
I run to you, I run to you

This song show many different types of rhymes. It shows rhyme, when it says "past and fast" also it shows end rhyme when it says "me...seems". The band makes the words sound alike when they say it, but when you look at them they do not look like they would rhyme. They show perfect rhyme when they say the word "run" over and over again. All bands show rhyme in there songs, all music that you listen to is poetry. Sometimes you have to really listen to hear it.

  12. Forever by Drake
    "Last name ever,
    first name greatest,
like a sprained ankle boy I ain’t nuttin to play with,
started off local, but thanks to all the haters,
i know G4 pilots on a first name basis,
and your city faded off the brown, Nino,
she insists she got more class, we know!
swimming in the money come and find me, Nemo,
if i was at the club you know I ball’d, cemo"

This song is a rap song and I don't listen to many rap songs ever. It consists of many perfect rhymes, slant rhymes, and end rhymes. Later in the song it shows a lot of repetition in the chorus.

  13. Beautiful by Eminem
"Fell down and I got right back up
But I need that spark to get psyched back up
In order for me to pick the mic back up
I don't know how I pry away And I ended up in this position I'm in
I starting to feel distant again
So I decided just to pick this pen
Up and tried to make an attempt to vent
But I just can't admit Or come to grips, with the fact that I may be done with rap
    I need a new outlet"

This song shows exact rhyme, rhyming "back up" with it self 3 times. It also shows slant rhyme with in, again and pen.

  14. There's a place I've been lookin' for
That took me in and out of buildings
    Behind windows, walls, and doors
And I thought I found it
    Couple times, even settled down
And I'd hang around just long enough
To find my way back out
I know now the place that I was trying to reach
Was you, right here in front of

    "Here" by Rascal Flatts

This song shows a lot of imagery using direct imagery. These lyrics also have a bit of assonance to them like the "o" vowels in enough and out. This song doesn't really have any rhyming in it, but I chose it because it is a pretty meaningful song and it will paint a picture in your head if you are listening to this song.

  15. "Verse 1:
Tell me a story that consists of more
Than once upon a time, the end, starring that same familiar friend
Sing me a song that I can hum upstairs in bed,
That can live in my mind, maybe for all time
    Refrain:
    I don't need a wallow face, I just need a place
I can call and name my own, my anywhere place, my anywhere place"
"Anywhere Place" by Katie Costello, uses imagery to create a story that she needs her own place to be. A place where she can be as lunatic as she wants and no one can tell her 'no.' She refers to old fairytales where the tale start by 'once upon a time...' She start the song this way by explaining that we need open our minds to something new, maybe tell our story without a 'once upon a time...' She also tells that she wants to live in her own mind for sometime. And I think, that would be fun, because you would be inside yourself, so there would no way to be any one else. For example, in Lord of the Flies by William Golding, one of the main characters put on a mask by putting paint on their face. If any one could live in their mind, then they would not have to put on that mask and, also, not have the pressure of others around them. I believe that Katie Costello is trying to tell everyone that we have a story to write and not let any one pursue us into a different future. Then we would put on a mask and we would not have our own story any more and life is a story waiting to be written.

    "So Cold"

    Crowded streets are cleared away
    One by One
    Hollow heroes separate
    As they run

    You're so cold
    Keep your hand in mine
    Wise men wonder while
    Strong men die

    [Chorus]

Show me how it ends it's alright
Show me how defenseless you really are
    satisfied and empty inside
Well, that's alright, let's give this another try

If you find your family, don't you cry
In this land of make-believe, dead and dry

You're so cold, but you feel alive
Lay your hand on me one last time

    [Chorus x2]

    It's alright [x9]

"satisfied and empty inside" slant rhyme
"one by one" perfect rhyme, you cant rhyme a word better then with itself

  17. I know sometimes things may not always make sense to you right now
But hey, what'd daddy always tell you?
    Straighten up little soldier
    Stiffen up that upper lip
    Whatchu crying about?
    You got me.

    [Verse 1]
Hailie, I know u miss your mom
And I know u miss your dad when I'm gone
But I'm tryin' to give you the life that I never had
    I can see your sad
    Even when you smile
    Even when you laugh
I can see it in your eyes
    Deep inside you wanna cry
    Cuz you're scared
    I ain't there,
Daddy's with you in your prayers
    No more cryin'
    Wipe them tears
    Daddy's here
    No more nightmares
We gonna pull together through it
    We gon' do it
    Lainie's uncle's crazy ain't he, yeah
But he loves you girl and you better know it We're all we got in this world
    When it spins
    When it swirls
    When it whirls
    When it twirls
    Two little beautiful girls
    Lookin' puzzled, in a daze
    I know it's confusing you
    Daddy's always on the move
    Mama's always on the news
I try to keep you sheltered from it
But somehow it seems, the harder that I try to do that
The more it backfires on me
    All the things, growin' up
As daddy, daddy had to see
Daddy don't want you to see
But you see just as much as he did
We did not plan it to be this way,
    Your mother and me
But things have got so bad between us
I don't see us ever being
    Together ever again
Like we used to be like when we was teenagers
    But then of course
Everything always happen for a reason
I guess it was never meant to be
    But it's just something
    We have no control over
    And that's what destiny is
But no more worries Rest your head and go to sleep
Maybe one day we'll wake up
And this will all just be a dream

daddy's here no more nightmares is a perfect rhyme, it's also showing alot of imagery like this:Straighten up little soldier
    Stiffen up that upper lip
    Whatchu crying about?
    When it spins
    When it swirls
    When it whirls
    When it twirls
    is an example of illiteration.
this is a example of what you were talking about in class mrs.Comp how eminem can make words rhyme evenwhen there not suppose to;Daddy's always on the move
    Mama's always on the news

i chose this because it reminds me that only the strongest person will survive and the weak will die. Also that if you are weak you can not sucsed in life and other things. Also that it has a tone that makes you express your self to stay strong no mater what.

I Have The Stuff That You Want
