  2. ~Who is the character of the narrator, a good boy or a minipulative one that gets attracted to his brother later on

    ReplyDelete
  3. doodle was dependant before but then more dependant when brother tried to get him to walk, then doodle got more dependant on him

    ReplyDelete
  4. How does Jame shurst characterize Doodle's brother (narrator)?

    ReplyDelete
  5. The chartector of the narrorator is wierd because at the begining he wants to kill his brother

    ReplyDelete
  6. That is harsh. I mean to kill him. what purpose would that have

    ReplyDelete
  7. I think he is both they have a love hate relationship.

  9. they have a very odd relationship a love hate

    ReplyDelete
  10. He does a great job with the narrorator because you see through the story the narrorator kind of growns up and matures

    ReplyDelete
  11. How does the narraor's pride get in the way of teaching Doodle?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Savanna put a good point across. should it be his brothers responsibility or the parents. what even happened to the parents? where they there for Doodle when he was growing up?

    ReplyDelete
  13. Yes i agree with Josh, the narrator seems like a guy throught out the story in fact, i remember Doodle calling him brother

    ReplyDelete
  14. This made me think of how much i should apperiate my brother and sister because they are healthy and i can play with them. I never realized how much they help me through life.

    ReplyDelete
  15. brother taught doodle or tried to teach him skills because he didnt want doodle to be so dependant on him for everything.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I think Doodle's older brother felt ashamed of Doodle in the beginning but throughout the story he and Doodle had a stronger relationship and he might have felt a little guilty for ever being ashamed of Doodle.

    ReplyDelete
  17. His pride is what I think killed Doodle if he was so prideful would he have left Doodle?

    ReplyDelete
  18. he is being selfish
no the parents were not pushing the brother to help he wants to help for his own self

    ReplyDelete
  19. Why dose he not like him even though he has tried to live up to his brothers standers

    ReplyDelete
  20. I think he is kind of a bad big brother he was very tough on his brother and then when his brother needed him alot he ran away. Thats messed up you dont leave your little brother.

    ReplyDelete
  21. If the parents were more involved with Doodle and his brother's activities, would the outcome of the story been different?

    ReplyDelete
  22. I disagree, because even though doodle still followed him/her around, after he learned to walk, he was less dependant. And I also think that yes it is the parents fault for not teaching him how to support and take care of him self.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Doodle clings to his brother always like his life depends on it

    ReplyDelete
  24. the narrarator i think said that brother wanted to kill doodle for dramatic effect, but then they both get so attached to each other

    ReplyDelete
  25. Why did he die in the end? Because of being left or because he was ill? Did he die because he was pushed to far?

    ReplyDelete
  26. he planed to kill him but changed his mind once he say Doodle smile at him

    ReplyDelete
  27. Why did they make the beginning so down? A child was being born, it should be happy

    ReplyDelete
  28. I don't think that it was good for Doodles dad to show him the casket. it is kind of telling Doodle that his dad and everyone else thinks he going to die and that no one has any faith in him. its like he doesn't have a chance.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I think he died because of he was ill and that he pushed his body so much that it just caved in

    ReplyDelete
  30. Marie, i think if the parents were more involved it could have altered the outcome of the story...because the realtionship could have been different and less competitive between Brother and Doodle.

    ReplyDelete
  31. i dont think the parents were involved enough, if they were, then doodle would have learned to walk befor brother taught him, he had it in him to walk but nobody ever madde him try, its somewhat the parents faults

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  33. He is a bad big brother his parents might have put to much responsiblity on him but he needs to be there for his brother.

    ReplyDelete
  34. yea i agree with chandlar doodle was born expected to die. How depressing...

    ReplyDelete
  35. I think that the dust/ pest killer that sprayed them and the red ibis were symbolic to doodles death, because they're both meanings of death

    ReplyDelete
  36. I agree here with conner, if the parents were more involved, Doodle would have lived a whole in tire different life.

    ReplyDelete
  37. i agree with cayla, it was a love hate relationship but i bet that brother would have loved him more then hate

    ReplyDelete
  38. I think that is so mean of the brother that would be so mean to his brother. but it seems it seems like how my life is. Me and my brother and sister fight but that dose not mean we hate each other. It might seem kind of weird but it kind of like a love fight. Even though we don't fight about love.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Yes it can I think this story is a good example of it. His brother wanted to kill him but he decide to teach him how to walk, although, he sometimes he would go to fast in the cart to try to get Doodle to fall out.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I think it was a love hate relationship but there was much more hate than love.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I think that Doodle never hated his brother, so it was love hate for the brother but not for Doodle.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I thinks its cruel how the parents didn't name doodle until he actually lived for threes months..then they decided to name him

    ReplyDelete
  43. the parents did not even try to help doodle, his brother was the one who wanted good for him

    ReplyDelete
  44. On what Mrs. Comp said, I do think that you can have a love hate relationship. with my brother, we always use to fight and we always said we hated each other but then again, we still loved each other a lot. it also makes me glad that i have the brother i have. and i makes me appreciate my health and his.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I agree with Sarah that the brother should of helped out but to point but she also says that the parents should be involved

    ReplyDelete
  46. I also agree with conner but the parents didn't realy care for doodle, and the narrator did thats why he taught him to walk...thats why their reaction wasn't that big when they showed the parents that he could walk...Its a symbolic meaning

    ReplyDelete
  47. yea they named him William Armstrong a name fit for a gravestone...

    ReplyDelete
  48. How do you judge the narrator's behavior toward his brother? do you judge the narrator for his pride as much as he judges himself?

    ReplyDelete
  49. if the doctor said that he cant do all that stuff and he couldn't be in the sun but why can he do all that

    ReplyDelete
  50. i agree with anthony, doodle loved his brother for teaching him all the things but brother was more of the hate part because he would get mad if doodle stopped doing the activity or gave up, he would get mad and not support doodle

    ReplyDelete
  51. Of couse Doodle loves his big brother it hard not to love your big brother.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I think they shouldn't of pushed him, but the narrators pride got in the way which i understand because he didn't want a retarded little brother

    ReplyDelete
  53. i agree with Kacie, i definitely shows that his family didn't have any faith in him living.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Yes but Elisabeth, you have to remember that brother do mean thing to there brother so i is only natural for the brother to be mean to Doodle even if Doodle isn't like everybody else in the walking or physical way

    ReplyDelete
  55. I think the brother pushed Doodle to hard because the brother wants to be mean but then he should be nice at the same time.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I agree with what Alex said he did push him alot.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I agree with Lindsey, because my sister and I fight all the time but its not like I'm gonna hate her for the rest of my life

    ReplyDelete
  58. I think cruelty and love can coexist becausee in the story he pushes Doodle to the limit beacuse hee wants a brother to hang with and excersise with ...so in way way he's pushing Doodle cause he loves him but also for his own selfish reasons.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I don't think the parents expected much out of Doodle so they never thought he could walk or succeed in any of the things he did. I think his brother discovered Doodle's pereseverance and strength.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Should you try to change the people you love? Should we push people to reach their potential?

    ReplyDelete
  61. Well, if the brother pushed him to hard or not, he helped Doodle more than anyone else thought imaginal

    ReplyDelete
  62. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  63. The brother had a very big change he has to live his hole life with the fact he pushed his brother a little to hard, and that will change your life.

    ReplyDelete
  64. i think that it was wrong that he ran ahead. he pushed him to hard. what would his parents say when he gets home. the fact that he tried so hard just not to be left that he couldn't take it. try living with that

    ReplyDelete
  65. the scarlet ibis really comes in the story when it falls out of the tree and dies. he was sick and so was doodle. then at the end of the book when doodle dies, hes limp like the ibis and red necked also like the ibis. doodle represents the ibis

    ReplyDelete
  66. I think the narrorator was mean to his little brother but I think he was trying to help him. he wasnt being mean just to be mean.

    ReplyDelete
  67. you should push them a little to achieve their greatest but you should never change someone to your liking.

    ReplyDelete
  68. it was love and hate because the brother helped Doodle walk and run, but later in the story the brother started to try to stay away from Doodle.

    ReplyDelete
  69. if you love them then you love them for who they are and not try to change then into something else...

    ReplyDelete
  70. I think if you really love someone they shouldn't have to change for you. They will reach their own potential in their own time and own way and you should just be there to encourage them and help them if needed.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I agree with connor because, he didn't want to carry a 5 almost 6 year old around because he couldn't walk....I think it was for his own good

    ReplyDelete
  72. I don't think he you can change someone but you should help them reach there potiental with in there limits though.

    ReplyDelete
  73. I agree with Cayla about the confusion at first to the scarlet ibis why he buried him and why he buried him because he is trying to fix what the family did wrong, and when he dies so at the grave. But did the scarlet ibis foreshadow or bring a superstition?

    ReplyDelete
  74. Think we should help people reach there potential. We should not make people reach there potential because we don't know what people breaking points are. But we should help people.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Lindsey, yes i agree. he had to push Doodle to change Doodle for greatness but there is an extent where he should of stopped pushing him so hard

    ReplyDelete
  76. No, i don't think you should try and change people you love. You can try but if the person doesn't want to be changed then you should stop and let them be therselves , you can also try and teach the person new skills (like he taught doodle) but there IS a limit to how far you should go ..and for Doodle that limit was death.

    ReplyDelete
  77. he pushed doodle so hard because he knew if he didnt, doodle wouldnt learn and brother would have a cripples brother for life really

    ReplyDelete
  78. Connor, you make a great point, but he changed Doodle and the thing was, Doodle wanted to change so that he too could walk

    ReplyDelete
  79. he pushed Doodle for his own gain he wasnt trying to help Doodle. The only reason he did it was because he was ashamed to have a crippled brother.

    ReplyDelete
  80. I agree with Sarah because she says he shouldn't of taken his pride so far.

    ReplyDelete
  81. the brothers pride was very selfish and mean and he wasn't even thinking of his brother when he taught him to walk. he was thinking only of himself and that if his brother was not perfect he would get made of for it.

    ReplyDelete
  82. I think that pride had a lot to do with what tipped the brother over board. Because the brother didn't want a crippled brother.

    ReplyDelete
  83. i think that he is responsible and he tried to make him more like normal people. i think that he is to full of him self

    ReplyDelete
  84. Why did the brother try to make Doodle do more than just walk?

    ReplyDelete
  85. He was born with a caul which is a membrane that is surrounding a his head

    ReplyDelete
  86. I think Brennen is right because he did it for his own gain and pride not just so that his brother could walk he was ashamed

    ReplyDelete
  87. anthony, i think he wnet farther then walking so brother could actually do things with doodle besides working on walking and things not fun

    ReplyDelete
  88. Anthony....it was probably to make their family seem more normal and not out of the ordinary.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Caul to the Aunt was concidered a good thing

    ReplyDelete
  90. What do you think about Alex's question...? when do we do things that aren't for our own gain? Is being selfless something that EVER happens?

    ReplyDelete
  91. I wonder what Doodle was thinking when he had completed all of these tasks? I wonder if he thought that he was doing something but it wasn't as good as what the brother could do with no worry at all.

    ReplyDelete
  92. I think he died because hi caul broke which is why his mouth and neck were red.

    ReplyDelete
  93. I agree with Elizabeth... It helped Doodle, toughened him up, he would still be fragile if not...I think the narrator went by the quote of, "The fear of failure is the death of success," because he had to fail a 1000 times to get doodle to walk.

    ReplyDelete
  94. he wanted his brother to be normal but it wasnt possible and it ended up pushing Doodle to the limit.

    ReplyDelete
  95. i agree with lindy, brother wanted to fit in just like normal people, and kids doodles age probably could swim so he wanted him just to be like the other kids

    ReplyDelete
  96. Alex's question brought up an interesting image that popped in to my mind because we always do stuff for ourselves and we are selfish so are the things we are selfish about different than his selfishness

    ReplyDelete
  97. what happened to doodle while he was alone?

    ReplyDelete
  98. Yes but the brother had accomplished that well for the most part, why continue or did he just feel that he could do anything imaginable since he already made Doodle walk

    ReplyDelete
  99. Was Doodle brother the one who killed him?

    ReplyDelete
  100. Was the cual still over Doodles head while he was alive?

    ReplyDelete
  101. it is just like early America we tried to or are changing other countries more like ares. he was making him more like him.

    ReplyDelete
  102. I agree it is human nature to be selfish and do things for ourselfs.

    ReplyDelete
  103. did Doodle know that his brother wasnt doing any of these for him? did he know that his brother didnt really care about him that much?

    ReplyDelete
  104. Now that i think of i have never done something with out seeing what i got out of it. Even when i give my clothes to charity i want pride in giving my clothes to charity.

    ReplyDelete
  105. i agree with Laurens comment. I think the brother knew he was going to die from the very start..

    ReplyDelete
  106. Why is Doodle struct by the ibis i think its because he knew it was his time.thats why he was so scared in the end

    ReplyDelete
  107. Doodle didn't know it was for his brothers gain. He just listened to his brother no matter what he said

    ReplyDelete
  108. Sarah brings a good point, why was it Doodle barring the bird and not someone else

    ReplyDelete
  109. I think that Doodle felt connected to the ibis because the bird came from South America so like Doodle, the bird had come a long way and faced many challenges.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Everyone does everything for ourselfs thats just our nature. So evn when he was trying to help Doodle he also did it for himself.

    ReplyDelete
  111. honestly, for most people being greedy and selfish comes natural and i dont blame brother for pushing Doodle and everything

    ReplyDelete
  112. I think Doodle some what thought it was for his own good...thats why he tryed so hard to keep up

    ReplyDelete
  113. I think Lauren points out a great emotion that the narrator has!

    ReplyDelete
  114. or maybe because they both are different...

    ReplyDelete
  115. I think there is a relationship between Doodle and the Scarlet Ibis because the Ibis came because he was pushed by a storm and I think Doodle's brother is his storm.

    ReplyDelete
  116. i think that if Doodle just said no that is good. If he said that walking is better than nothing

    ReplyDelete
  117. Do you think Doodle was a Burden for the Narrator?

    ReplyDelete
  118. I agree with Marie comment on how Doodle and the bird are alike and how both came a long way, and Doodle realized he would die eventually also.

    ReplyDelete
  119. Scarlet Ibis was a like metaphor describing Doodle. There is no doupt about that but still the question comes up. Why did Doodle barry the bird and not the brother or dad?

    ReplyDelete
  120. i dont think that doodle thinks hes going to die. i dont think he thinks of death much

    ReplyDelete
  121. how did the brother push doodle? couldn't doodle just say no?

    ReplyDelete
  122. Jacob, I think that Doodle looked up to his brother and wanted to make him proud by doing all the things his brother wanted him to do so he didn't want to say no.

    ReplyDelete
  123. I agree with Brad and that Doodle didnt think about death much

    ReplyDelete
  124. Josh he could but his trusted his brother and did anything he said

    ReplyDelete
  125. josh if doodle said no then brother said shut up keep going. doodle didnt have much choice

    ReplyDelete
  126. the bird died from the storm and Doodle died in the storm

    ReplyDelete
  127. I think he wanted the attention from his brother and to be able to hang with the brother. Did the ibis foreshadow begin with the start of the ibis coming down or when it actually dies.

    ReplyDelete
  128. josh....Dooodle didnt know any better and since his brother was normal he was probably going to do anything his brother said.

    ReplyDelete
  129. They both died by pushing them self to far

    ReplyDelete
  130. The bird and Doodle both kind of died the same way.

    ReplyDelete
  131. the night shade bush was a symbol of death because it is poisonous...

    ReplyDelete
  132. i also dont think doodle really thought about his brother being mean, he just thought that his brother was going to help him.

    ReplyDelete
  133. Doodle and the Scarlet Ibis are very much alike as , both died in similar stances, as Mrs. comp just stated. Doodle is very much alone and an outcast in the world as he cannot swim and run etc. but eventually learned but also the scarlet Ibis as it came all the way from the South and is now alone.

    ReplyDelete
  134. ya if he was helping Doodle then they bonded that way and that way only

    ReplyDelete
  135. Doing some reserch, The bird had to out run the storm from the south, some where in northern brazil to florida.... Doodle had to keep up with the narrator.

    ReplyDelete
  136. I thinks it ended just like that because he didn't want you to know any more. He wanted to make the ending sound super sad.

    ReplyDelete
  137. I think that Doodle fell after pushing him self to hard just like the ibis fell

    ReplyDelete
