  1. I think it’s great to know the facts about the 21st century, but I already knew most of it. It’s not to great that China and India has kids that are smarter then USA’s adults. It’s great that the world is becoming more computer literate, because I’m already 15 and very computer literate so I can only learn more about computers in years to come. Hopefully USA doesn’t have to send jobs to other countries in the future. With all the technology becoming more useful is a very good thing. It’s a great impact on my life because I’m better with computers then anything else. The value of learning to me is to become more aware of the things about you and what you like to do. My role as a learner is to get more knowledge about the things going on right now and in the future so I can have a better life.

  2. As I was watching Mr. Fisch’s powerpoint, I learned a LOT of new things. It amazed me that there are more extremely gifted children in China than there are here, in the United States. I also never thought of putting how many babies are born here into perspective, as opposed to China and India. For every one born here, four are born in China and FIVE are born in India! That blows my mind that we are that less populated. Also, many of today’s college majors didn’t exist just ten years ago! That wasn’t even a long time ago! That makes me wonder what we’ll study, or have a major in ten years from now… Also, the fact that 3,000 books were published today, makes me have hope that any one of us could publish a book if we tried. It made me realize that we have to do our part in the world, which is to not just learn, but to excel, and not just to do what is expected of us. THAT is my place in the world. I am the one who controls my future and if I want to publish a book, then I have to make that happen. The value of learning is being able to use it whenever, and however I want. I can choose how little or how much education I get, but the more you get, the better off you are. My role as a learner is to do more than what is wanted. Don’t just write a story, publish it, or blog it! No matter if it is a best seller, or not, you still put yourself out there, and that is a great accomplishment.

  3. I think its crazy how China has more honor students then the U.S. has students but thats only because of their population. And it makes me wonder when I go to college what could I major in that they didnt even have a couple of years ago cause it didn't exist! It could bring a pretty big impact, one by creating a bunch of newer jobs for people, and two cause now there is something new that everyone is being tought so it would be a lot harder to get a job in whatever is coming. The value of learning is to have knowledge and understanding in what goals or future lies ahead so we have better understanding and a better idea upon newer tecnology which is quickly developing. My role a a learner is to understand and go into more depth with what in know and what I dont so that I would be more well prepared for the outcome of the future.

  4. My personal thoughts are that the power point was amazing, how the population of a country can effect everything. It made me think for a very long time about all the different factors in living a life where you are constantly learning, but you never know what your going to use it for because your learning to prepare for jobs and problems that don’t exist yet… If you think about it, that’s intense. That’s why I want to learn and be ready when that “problem” and the near future comes. So I can get a job to help the rest of society and change the world, one step at a time. I value my education because some people don’t get it. But we as AHS students do.

  5. I think that Mr. Fisch had an amazing slide show called "Did You Know." Some things that I was suprised at was when the slide show said that China is going to be the number 1 English speaking country in the world! That struck me as something very important. Then I thought, change is happening everywhere and I haven't been noticing it. I was supirsed when the PowerPoint said that they're more gifted children in China then there are children in the U.S! This might impact us by when we kids get older we might have more jobs to choose from. On the other side of that, we might have less jobs and might have to do a job that we wont want to do. I think the value of learning is the obvious, to get smarter and to learn new things, about others and yourslef. My role as a learner is to learn new things and to apply them to the real world. That is what i think of Mr. Fichs's amazing slide show.

  6. The "Did you know" power point was simply amazing to me! Like how,the knowledge in New York Times is more knowledge than someone owned in the 1880's, or the number of texts we send in a day is more than the population. Even though I think half of those are from me!
It makes me think that the place we have in the world is growing in technology, so the way we learn is the way we were brought up in.
This doesn't really affect me, because eveyday I am using it so i might as well learn by it.
The value of learning is very important! On a day to day basis we use the knowledge we have accumlatedover the years. It also helps with responsiblity and in future events like owning a car or getting your first debit/credit card.
My role as a learner is to basically help everyone else but also get good grades in school.

  7. The "Did you know" power point was very interesting to me. I thought it was crazy that China and India are so much smarter than the U.S and have a much larger population of honor students and English speaking people.
The 21 century is so technologically advanced, we send so many text messages and the amount of people on Myspace is unbelievable. I think it is my role as a learner to learn the ways of technology, I'm not great at it but I might as well start getting better because there will be new cell phones all the time and computers, cars, job and technology will be getting more advanced and more crucial to me getting the job I want.
I think Mr.Fichs's slide show is going to be very helpful in preparing us for change.

  8. After watching Mr. Fisch’s PowerPoint, “Did You Know” the fact that got me the most is that soon a laptop would be greater then the human brain. Then a laptop would be greater then the human race. Who would even create this if it was greater then the human brain, because I thought humans made everything, so how would this computer be created? When the presentation said that seventy percent of four year old have used a computer; that blew my mind. As I learned that the number of texts sent and received exceeds the population of the planet, all I thought was how many of those texts are sent in full words and spelled correctly. I think twice about how the future learners that will be able to spell. Especially since everyone knows at least some shorter verses of words. Another fact that I cannot wrap my mind around is that China will be the number one English speaking country in the world. Since English is the hardest language to learn, who would want to speak it, but unfortunately I can understand why China would know English, because the workers in China make a lot of toys and objects that we use in the U.S. I am pretty sure that almost every computer that I use is "made in China." That brings me to another fact that I could never image; kids in developing countries will soon have a laptop even though they have never had much of a textbook.
My place in the world is a delicate balance. I always think of searching my name on Google (everyone does it once in their lifetime) and hoping that I do not come up anything, because once you are on the internet, then you can never get off. For right now, I do not people in Africa or the middle east knowing me just because they saw me on the world wide net. Fortunately there are many places on the internet, like Facebook or MySpace, that I can talk to friends and family and keep up with events. I believe the internet growing is a big impact on my life because then I can grow with more information and knowledge.
The value of learning is more then any computer or anything can tell me. Learning is something that happens in a lifetime and not a day or year. When I think of more information to come it scares me, to think that anyone could hold that much information. Then again, it excites me because then I can know what a person is talking about and join in on the conversation. My role as a learner is to listen and digest the information given to me. Then once I know more information, my role is to pass it on and spread the knowledge.

  9. The facts in this presentation are really amazing if you think about them. Just knowing that in about seven minutes, 60 babies are being born in America every day, and at least 351 in India. One fact that really amazed me was that most of the information consumed in the first year of a technology student will be outdated in their third year. I never thought that China would be the top English speaking country over the ones who have been speaking it for years. All these facts are hard to take in at first but actually make sense. I’ve grown up thinking that the U.S. was the “Top Dog” of all countries but now knowing how far England has gone it makes me feel like a small contributor to the world but a big part to my country. This video has impacted me by knowing so much more about what is happening in our would today. It made me really stop and think about what could happen in our world that could just fly by us not knowing.
My role as a learner is to be creative in how I learn and actually want to learn the material. It is also to be respectful to my teacher to try to take in as mush knowledge possible. The value of learning is to be involved in what you’re learning. If you just don’t care you are missing out on opportunities that could really impact your future. If you are really interested in learning you could discover things you didn’t even know about yourself, your friends, and your family. Who knows, you could be related to some of the greatest achievers of our time! So the value of learning is to want to learn and be involved with your learning, because you never know what you might find.

  10. After watching Mr. Fisch's power point, "Did You Know", I really started thinking about my education, technological changes, and not just my future, but the world's future. The facts and statistics in the power point really opened my eyes. It is hard to believe that in 10 years China could be the number one English speaking country. I didn't know that India and China both had more honors students then kids in the U.S. For me, that fact encourages me to study harder and try to do my best in school. I hope that it would make a difference in the world but even if it didn't, I will be better prepared for the unknown future that I face. The points brought up in this presentation don't just effect me, but they effect the world too. Technology is advancing so fast that all teachers around the world need to prepare us for technological events that can and will occur years from now. If we are taught this, we will be more prepared for jobs that have not even been created now. Our education shouldn't be taken for granted because right now, at our age, is the time when we have to prepare for our future. If we don't do it now, we will lose out on many job opportunities and opportunities to change the world. As a learner, I need to focus on my education and the events that are happening now. I need to prepare for my future and prepare for all of the events in Mr. Fisch's power point. By doing this, I will be ready to face all of this and help others too.

  11. After watching Mr. Fish's PowerPoint Do you know. I now know that the future is a different place. There will be computers smart than the human brain. There will be so much new stuff to learn and know that it will be overwhelming. What’s interesting is that there are more honor students in China then there are students in America and that the will be the number one english speaking country. This makes me think that every one here has to work twice as hard because we are going to be competing with them for jobs. That's going to be hard since there already not enough job especially when jobs are being outsourced. The value of learning is now more important then every because there so much to learn that will help you succeed in life. Are role as a learner is now so much more important then before if you can learn then it's going to be tough to succeed we need to prepare for jobs that don't even exist. It's going to take a lot of work but we can do it.

  12. I thought it was really interesting to find out how China has more honor students then we have students, and that more than 3,000 books are published each day. After watching the video it makes me think about how much learning we will have to do and for future students, but it also amazes me to. It could impact me greatly because people are coming up with soo much new and improved technology that we will have in the future. The value of learning is to always do your best because your preparing for your future and your future effects people and the world. My role as a learner is to try and prepare for whats ahead and always do my best. If i dont then i wont get the great opportunities the future has for most of us.

  13. After watching Mr. Fisch's power point, "Did You No," I was intrigued. I was stunned that soon China will be the number one speaking english country. This impacted me because amarica's jobs will go to them and only some of them to us. Even though we'll be doing jobs that don't even exist in the future, that won't be enough. India and China also have more advanced children put together than America does. That challanges me to study harder and to do better in school. As the technology changes around us, it changes the world too. To think that computers will be smarter than the human race, is absolutly incredable. The value of learning is that what we do and create will affect the future of the world. There for always make good choices and do the best you can. My role as a learner, is to learn how to be the best I can be, and to prepare for the long road of life ahead of me and experience the awsome oppertunities through out that journey.

  14. Some things that really got my attention in the "Did you Know" PowerPoint is that China has more intelligent kids then in the USA, and that they could be the top English speaking country in the world. I never knew that technology was getting better as fast as it said in the PowerPoint. The value of learning is very important for the future, for our jobs that we will have, and the way that we will live. My role as a learner is to listen, do my work, and obviously to learn. We learn to get smarter, know what to do, know how to live, and to make life better.

  15. The power point really amazed me. I couldn’t believe the facts in the power point. The thing that really amazed me was that Great Brittan was already training students for electronics that haven’t been invented yet or disasters that we haven’t heard of yet. I also couldn’t believe that there is 1,300 people in China are just like us is hard to believe. The value of learning is a lot more important than it was along time ago, it is more important because to succeed it today’s society you need to know how to do more with electronics. What we are learning today in math class is what people learned and graduated with in the 1940’s. Our role as a learner is to take in as much learning as we can in our life time.

  16. After seeing the "Did you know?" powerpoint it really made me think about just what is happening in the world right now and how technology is improving. Like if Myspace were a country it would be the 5th largest in the world. I was really amazed at almost every fact on the powerpoint.
I think that the value of learning is to help us with our futures and to get us ready for the real world. It is also really important to get used to the technology because when we are older our entire lives are going to be about new technology and how to operate it. So our roles as learners it to get ready for the future ands its problems but also its advances and not just technology. The social and political ones to.
These are my thoughts on the powerpoint and learning along with our role in it.

  17. What strikes me most about Mr.Fisch’s “Did You Know” presentation is the fact that China will be the number one english speaking country in the world. This makes me think about our expectations for us as 21st century students, while most of us will be majoring in jobs that don’t exist some of us will have to invent and create those jobs. This will impact us in our future jobs that don’t exist yet if there are many adults with very high intellects then the average person won’t be able to stand out in the job market therefore diminishing his or her chance of getting a job. Now though the value of learning is knowledge which will make us our future money. So our roles as learners are not only to take in facts and rules of today but to be able and willing to adapt this knowledge to fix problems that aren’t problems yet.

  18. After I viewed the PowerPoint, “Did you know?” I learned new facts about how the world is changing in many new ways and how we NEED to be prepared for the 21 century. Ways this “did you know” video shocked me were, that in 10 years China will be the number one English speaking country in the world. Also, that by most of today’s learners 38th birthday they will have been in 10-14 jobs, predicts the U.S. department of labor. Next that most 21-year olds will have at least spent 10,000 hours on the phone. Also, if Myspace were a country it would be the 5th largest!!
For year’s I’ve seen change in not only the U.S.A. but everywhere, but I haven’t thought much of it. Now I see much major more shifts coming and this could both impact me and other for the good and bad. It’s time for us to start realizing our futures and what education actually means to us. The value of learning to me is , to pay attention and to get involved with what I’m being taught as it WILL impact me greatly when I’m older and these decisions now will stick with me for the rest of my life. My role as a learner is to value my education and apply it to real life, as I only need to learn but I WANT to learn .

  19. The "Did You Know" powerpoint by Mr. Fisch made a huge impact on me. It was so interesting to learn all of those facts. What stood out to me the most is how that the teachers now are preparing their students for jobs that don't even exist yet. Also that by the year 2049 they predict that a computer that costs just one thousand dollar will be smarter than the human race. Hearing about things like that shows that technology worldwide is improving more and more as time goes by. The value of learning is very important now days. I think that the new technology is also preparing us for the real world. Since most jobs have to do with technology now days, its good for us to grow up with it. Our role as learners is to try to learn a lot and do our best while studying hard so that in the future we can fix problems that haven't even become problems yet.

  20. The powerpoint "Did You Know" left me speechless. One of the craziest things about it was if you are one in a million in China there would be 1300 people just like you. And I was sad to learn that Nintendo spent more than twice as much on research than is spent on schools in the US. I also learned that computers in 2013 will be able to exceed the capabilites of the human brain and it will only cost $1,000. I learned that if My Space was a country than it would be the 11th largest country in the world. This powerpoint has taught me that nothing is permanent and that everything can and will change.
I think the value of learning is important because we need to keep learning to evolve as a human race. If we stop learning, we wouldn't be able to move forward. We must keep learning so we can do things that are unimagineable like cure diseases and increase life expectancy. If you would have told someone in 1900 that in 69 years we would be able to put a man on the moon, they would have laughed at you. But we were able to do that. Therefore, everyone has to continue to learn throughout their lifetime.
My role as a learner is try hard to challenge myself and to challenge the people around me. I feel that I have an obligation to learn so that I can do great things in the future. I also think that you have to be open minded to learn new things.

  21. The “Did you Know” PowerPoint really opened my eyes to the world’s recent advancements of technology. It made me very thankful that our education is preparing us for our adulthood as there is no doubt in my mind that the need for computer skills will only increase in years to come. The fact that China will soon become the largest English-speaking country in the world really surprised me. Sure, China has a much larger population than that of the U.S. but it’s very odd to think that even as a secondary language, they could have more citizens fluent in English. It’s also fairly worrying to think that by the time we are in the job market, there will be so much strong competition internationally! It is very humbling to learn that America isn’t the only huge world power out there, but at the same time, it’s scary to think that I haven’t noticed how advanced places like China and India really are. I worry that, since many jobs are already being sent over seas due to less expensive labor costs, the trend will continue and it will be much more difficult to work in the United States when there are very well trained, knowledgeable candidates elsewhere as well. It makes me feel very fortunate to be prepared.

There is a huge value to learning as we continue to discover new things to be taught. As a student, it is especially important to recognize the value of knowledge, because as we get older, it will be what determines how we live the rest of our live. How much we learn now will help us succeed in college, jobs, and life! Also, when it gets down to it, the amount of money we make will also greatly depend on how much we value our knowledge. This is not to say that money is the most important thing in life by any means, however most people would agree that making at least enough money to support yourself with basic necessities makes other aspects of life much easier.

As a learner and a student, our role is essentially to sculpt our future. At this point in our lives, the saying, “you control your own life,” very strongly applies as we are starting to choose what we will do when we are adults. We get to decide how hard we want to work to be successful when we grow up and go out into the ever-changing world. By being active learners, we are preparing ourselves for the world described in Mr. Fisch’s presentation, to compete with the rest of the world to discover and create new things.

  22. The Powerpoint makes me think about a lot of things. It kind of made me feel like just a number, but then compared to India and China I'm more then a number. The job facts were a little scarry, but then again it makes me want to learn so much more. It's a little daunting to think of all this new stuff ahead, but life has to change. I'm glad someone brought this conversation up, because hopfully people will value education more and relize how important it is. I value education a lot but I don't think everybody does beacuse of Public schools. I used to think about school as something I have to do, but in reality it is something I get to do. It is important to learn what is out there. I think many people don't relize how much school is worth until they go to collage, but school should be valued before that to. When people value learning they value their roll are a student. They get to sit there and listen. It's not about what the teacher teaches you, but about what you learn. You pay for school and it is your job to learn what the teachers are teaching not their job to make sure you learn what they teach. They can teach all day, but it is your job to learn. You should not learn for your teacher sake, but for your own.

  23. After seeing “Did you know” I started to think how big the world is and how many people speak the same language like china will be the number one English speaking country in the world and that just shows how closely related we all are. Even learning is almost the same wear ever you go its just on different difficulties that people learn. Living in a world that most people can go any ware and there is a computer there that you can use is so cool but I think if more computers will become smarter more people will become more relied on the computer and there for dumber. I think that computers should be more manual like now for people to still learn.

My role as a learner is to just do the best I can to get the best job in the military so when I get out I can be better in the battle in the job market. I’m going to get better grades than I ever have before. My main role as a learner thou are to learn what I can now wale I’m young and when I don’t have a job.
